The Hungarian Demographic Research Institute currently has four regular publications in English: Demográfia - English Edition, Demographic Portrait of Hungary, Research Highlights, Working Papers on Population, Family and Welfare. All these journals provide immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge

Journals

  • Demográfia

    Founded in 1958, Demográfia is the peer reviewed, open access annual journal of the Hungarian Demographic Research Institute and the Demographic Committee at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Demográfia publishes scholarly articles on demographic issues in English and Hungarian. Two issues are published per year.
    Between 2003 and 2023, an English version of Demográfia was published annually as Demográfia English Edition (ISSN 1787-940X – print, ISSN 1787-9566 - online). Its issues are available in the archives of Demográfia as issue 5 of each volume.

  • Working Papers on Population, Family and Welfare

    The Working Papers on Population, Family and Welfare periodically highlight the empirical research of the HDRI’s researchers and other involved authors.

  • Demographic Portrait of Hungary

    The Demographic Portrait of Hungary – Report on the Conditions of the Hungarian Population is published every three years, and provides an overview of recent Hungarian population processes in European comparison in a concise format. The twelve chapters are written exclusively by researchers at the institute. This publication aims to reach a wide audience and strives to disseminate insights to demographic processes using figures and easily understandable tables.

  • Research Highlights

    Research Highlights points a spotlight on the results of important ongoing research projects of the Hungarian Demographic Research Institute. It has a one-page format, and a short description of the research results are always complemented by an easily comprehensible graph or chart.
